Faith is More About Experience Than Belief
One of the keys to healthy faith is to GO.
Throughout Christian history, Christians have moved away from what is familiar and comfortable and learned how to become "one of" a new place, people group, neighborhood, and city. Moving to a place and having to start from scratch forces a person to embrace powerlessness.
Some critical organic faith movements happen with this:
Your understanding of humanity expands.
Good news looks different to different people groups, cultures, and places. The Gospel requires nuance. (Jesus never used the same miraculous method twice...hmmm)
You move from ignorance of another culture to appreciation, and in many cases, adopt pieces of that culture in your own life. They become sacred to you. (This is the type of movement that happens when you love the stranger, befriend the enemy, hmmm)
I'm constantly desiring personal growth, restoration, and peace. For me, the journey of growth is never over. And as someone who is pursuing those things, one of the key criteria I look for in a book, a leader, someone who might have influence with me...
Have they moved?
Have they lived, worked, and played amongst a different culture? (All 3 required)
If they haven't, they are going to have tunnel vision and blind spots they aren't aware of. Within that tunnel can be beauty, but it's limited.
And if I'm describing you, and you haven't moved...it's never too late to explore.
Faith is more about experience than belief.
